Description The New Balance Burst running shoe design was my entry for the 2021 New Balance Designing with Sole class held by Pensole. I started out with a very abstract construction but after going through the course I found new and innovative ways to revamp my design for the final submission. I felt that one of the best adjustments to make to this shoe was to provide a way to keep the runner comfortable while also providing support through shock absorption. This is where this midsole got abstract aesthetically but also practical in that it provided a "spring" for the runner. Along with this, I decided that the shoe should have lightweight materials (leather and mesh) to provide the runner with ease as they run. As far as the color selections I wanted to provide consumers with something vibrant and speedy so I went with yellow and magenta. Also grounded the design with hits of black and blue. This color way was also inspired by the concept of CMYK.
Innovation The New Balance Burst is innovative in that it provides the athlete with support in areas of the shoe that "spring" the foot forward while running. With maximum shock absorption and a lightweight feel, this is a new and different concept for the family of New Balance running shoes.
