Description
Paddleboarding is a rapidly growing sport, and with it, the number of novices getting lost and requiring rescue at sea is rising. PaddleLume is designed to help the Coastguard easily locate and rescue paddleboarders in distress. Currently, there’s no affordable safety device for novices, the group most at risk, leaving a significant gap in the market. PaddleLume fills this need with an ergonomically designed, lightweight, and durable safety solution that is always attached to the user for quick access in emergencies. It features a twist-activated LED light, which works best at night, and a sea-dye capsule that provides high visibility during the day. Additionally, PaddleLume includes calming instructions to help prevent panic in distress situations. Made from high-quality materials, it is built to withstand harsh marine conditions. With wireless charging and an accessible rental price, PaddleLume ensures that safety is available to everyone. This simple, effective solution makes paddleboarding safer for all.

Innovation
The PaddleLume is an innovative safety device addressing a huge gap in the market for an affordable, accessible solution to the growing issue of paddleboarders—especially novices—getting lost or needing rescue at sea. Many don’t want to invest in expensive safety gear they may never use again, making cost a major barrier.

Unlike other safety products, PaddleLume is cheap to manufacture, allowing it to be rented for as little as £5 per session, encouraging greater use. Its life-saving features include a high-intensity LED flare (visible up to 12km), a sea dye capsule (staining water for daytime visibility), and calming instructions to help prevent panic. The ergonomic LED activation works when wet, the device has a natural grip and is always securely attached to the user via a safety cord, providing easy access in emergencies. The bright colors naturally highlight the product’s features, aiding those in distress. The wireless charging pad ensures it’s always ready for use.

Product Detail
The PaddleLume safety device is designed for paddle boarders by aiding in emergency rescues. It is composed of durable and water-resistant materials, ensuring reliability in harsh marine environments. The primary materials include Grade 500 HDPE, sheet acrylic, silicon, nylon, and 316L stainless steel, chosen for their strength, corrosion resistance, and longevity.

The structure of the device features thermoformed and resin-moulded components, ensuring a streamlined, lightweight, yet robust design. It is powered by two 32600 batteries, enabling prolonged operation. The product incorporates wireless charging to ensure it's always fully charged. The twist-activated LED light offers two modes: solid (18 hours) and flashing S.O.S (9 hours), producing 820 lumens, visible from 4-12 km. Additionally, it includes a sea-dye compartment (lasting 1 hour, visible up to 3.6 km) for increased visibility in distress situations.

Manufactured in batch via Formlabs high temperature resin (100 units before mould replacement), Paddle Lume prioritises sustainability with repairable and recyclable components, alongside tessellated packaging to reduce waste.

Specification
PaddleLume is compact, lightweight, and durable product designed for novices, used by anyone. It measures 194mm x 62mm x 62mm, weighs approximately 300g, and has a waterproof rating of IP68.

Designed for both men and women, the PaddleLume is available in high-visibility Canary Yellow (main body), Red (lower screw cap), and Light Grey (charging dock & base). A transparent acrylic light guard enhances LED brightness, while a twist-activated system ensures easy operation, even with wet hands.

The water-resistant and corrosion-resistant structure incorporates Grade 500 HDPE, stainless steel, silicone, and nylon, making it highly durable for marine environments. Multiple attachment methods ensure compatibility with different.
