Description The Jogak Jacket is designed to be a centerpiece in a Heritage Collection by two-time Gold Olympian snowboarder Chloe Kim to celebrate her Korean-American identity through fashion and sustainability. It is inspired by the silhouette of the Hanbok, the Korean traditional garment, and follows the practice of Jogakbo, a Korean style of patchwork made from leftover fabric scraps. Pieced into whole, this jacket embodies Chloe Kim's multifaceted identity and breathes new life into old material.
This jacket features an asymmetrical quarter-zip for breathability like the V-shape neckline of Jeogori, the outer top garment in Hanbok. The Jeogori tie continues to honor the Hanbok and adds visual interest. The oversized drapey hood and high-neck collar provides a cocoon of comfort and warmth. The raglan balloon sleeve allows for a dramatic drop-shoulder fit to create another layer of dimension to the billowing silhouette. The elastic drawcord at the hem offers adjustability and cinching for contrast. The jacket is also fully lined for easy donning, doffing, and layering. Lastly, the customized 3D printed zipper pull represents a Korean ornamental knot traditionally worn by women.
Innovation Billowing, asymmetrical, dreamy, cultural, and warm. The Jogak Jacket challenges the traditional fit and silhouette of commercialized outerwear. It honors the rich cultural traditions of the Korean Hanbok, features a drapey oversized hood and dramatic balloon sleeves, all the while keeping you cozy as if you were wrapped up in a thick, quilted blanket.
Product Detail The Jogak Jacket is named for its quilting technique, Jogakbo, a Korean style of patchwork made from scrap material. Inspired by this art and the pressing need to address climate change, the shell fabric of this jacket is gathered piece by piece and stitched into a whole using leftover scrap fabric from previous projects at my university. This practice is not only symbolic of snowboarder Chloe Kim’s Korean-American identity, but is a reminder that every step towards sustainability is meaningful.
The jacket is insulated with two layers of 100% recycled polyester medium loft fleece. The lining of the jacket is 100% recycled nylon woven. The zipper pull is 3D modeled in Rhino and printed using silk PLA filament.
Specification This is a women’s jacket, sized as a small/medium with an oversized fit. There are three potential colorways - Jirisan Persimmon, Tundra Wildflowers, and Winter Jade.
