Description Sneakers inspired by the original Whitney Museum of Art in New York City. Designed by Marcel Breuer.
Design Concept
The sneakers embrace the monolithic, asymmetrical nature of Breuer’s masterpiece, featuring a chunky silhouette with dramatic geometric paneling. Deep angular cuts and cantilevered elements echo the Whitney’s inverted ziggurat form, giving the shoe a unique, architectural profile.
Key Features & Brutalist Influences:
Sole Structure: The midsole and outsole resemble a geometric lattice, evoking the skeletal, exposed structure often seen in brutalist architecture. It looks inspired by cantilevered and modular concrete forms, similar to the Whitney Museum’s inverted facade.
Upper Design: The smooth, minimalist upper contrasts sharply with the intricate sole. The fluid lines break away from traditional brutalist rigidity, adding a futuristic edge while maintaining a structured aesthetic.
The upper could be a mix of matte leather, neoprene, or TPU for a seamless, modern finish.
The sole could use reinforced EVA or a lightweight 3D-printed polymer to maintain its bold structure without excessive weight.
